7 Top Tips To Boost Productivity When Working From Home

Although working from home is an incredibly rewarding thing to do, it can really hard to stay motivated with so many different distractions around you. Whether you’re distracted by your TV, the endless amount of housework you have to do or find it far too difficult to get out of bed in the mornings – it can be hard to have a full productive day at work.

With that in mind, here are 7 top tips to help boost your productivity when working from home:

If you start each day knowing what your schedule for the day is, it’s more likely you’re going to stick to it. Similar to working in an office environment, creating loose guidelines for a schedule means you know exactly what you’re supposed to be doing and when. Not only does it mean you’re more focused, but also means you spend less time getting distracted.

Although working from your bed may seem like the best idea to begin with, you’re less likely to work if you spend all day in the place you associate with sleep. Instead, create an office space that is both comfortable and inspiring. Creating this space will mean that you love to work there, but can close the door on it at the end of each ‘work day’.

This may seem small, but ensuring you make the time to eat lunch and take a break away from your screen is incredibly important when it comes to boosting your productivity. Treating your lunch hour as a break means that by the time it’s over you’re ready to get back to work feeling refreshed and motivated.

Working in your PJs is obviously a comfortable option, but it won’t make you feel like you’re ready to work. Getting dressed for the day will make you feel like you’re motivated and ready to go.

Social media can be one of the biggest distractions when working from home as there is no way to control when you turn it off. Logging out during the day and turning your notifications off will stop you getting distracted, increasing the amount of work you get done.

Making sure you have everything you need for a productive day at work before you start working will minimalize the number of times you have to get up to get something. Whether it’s enough water to last the day, a notebook to take notes or your Mac’s charger cable – if you need it, make sure it’s in your office first thing in the morning. If you’re travelling instead and battery life is going to be a issue, you can find tips to extend a Mac’s battery life here.
