Don’t Fall For “The Secret To Overnight Success”

the-secret-to-overnight-success

We have often heard of someone in the media as becoming, “an overnight success”.  The truth is that if you do the research, you will learn the truth.  The secret is that there is no real overnight success.  When you dig deeper, you realize that there was hard work that was often done before this success happened.  There were several attempts and failures.  The overnight success was actually the culmination of hard work, determination, focus and the will to keep getting up every time they got knocked down.

If anyone tries to approach you about their secret formula for overnight success, realize that they are more interested in your money than your success.  Expecting substantial results from little input is a delusion and will lead you to disappointment.  Performing crunches for one day won’t give you six-pack abs.  If you have a dream and have been working at it for a while without your desired results, don’t give up.  Keep drilling and the oil will come.

Here are some examples of people who overcame several obstacles and failures but kept going.

Steve Jobs

It is well known that he was fired from his own company when he was 30 only to come back and make Apple the most valuable company in the world.

Walt Disney

Walt Disney inspired millions to believe that “Dreams really do come true”.  When he first started out, he was fired from a newspaper because he was told he lacked creativity.  He was committed to his dream and proved his creativity by creating an empire that inspired many through movies and theme parks.

Henry Ford

While known today for his innovative assembly line, he knew failure before he felt success.  His early businesses left him broke five times before he founded the Ford Motor Company.

Arianna Huffington

One of the most recognizable names in online publications got rejected by 36 publishers before her work was eventually accepted for.

Harrison Ford

In his first film, Ford was told by the movie execs that he simply didn’t have what it takes to be a star. He obviously didn’t let that stop him from trying.  Today, his iconic portrayals of characters like Han Solo and Indiana Jones proved those execs wrong.

“Some say I’m an overnight success. Well, that was a very long night that lasted about 10 years. “ – Lisa Morton

Prepare for a marathon, not a sprint.  Enjoy the journey and realize that every action you take will bring you one step closer to your goal.  Don’t give up and learn from your setbacks.  Let your learning propel you further towards your destination.  Your day will come as long as you keep on trying.  Before you know it, YOU can become an “overnight success”, even if it takes you more time then you thought.
