Money management may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of personal development, but since money plays such a huge role in all our lives, it is certainly a subject that’s worth exploring on your journey to mastering yourself.
The thing about money is that it’s useful when it’s used right; to pay for the essentials and aid you in building a business., traveling the world, or otherwise pursuing your dreams, but when it’s mismanaged, it can turn life into a nightmare. That’s why it pays to learn how to use money without letting it control your life, and that is what we are going to look at right now…
Be grateful for what you have
If you are truly grateful for all the wonderful things you do have, you are less likely to want to buy more unnecessary stuff that won’t make you happy or truly enhance your life in any way. That’s why writing a gratitude list each night is, in a very real way, one of the best money management tools you could ever have.
Don’t compare yourself to others
Comparison is the thief of joy so start living your own life and don’t get too hung up on what other people are doing. That way, you won’t feel the need to keep up with the Joneses and get into debt as a result.
Remember money is nothing more than a tool
Money is an inanimate object and as such it has no inherent value – there is no point in hoarding it, That isn’t to say that you don’t need money – of course, you do – but it does mean that you shouldn’t pursue it for its own sake. Make money so you can start a business or pursue your goals, but don’t make money the goal.
Don’t get into debt
If you’re already in debt, check out this DTSS review to see what can be done about it. If you aren’t already in debt, do whatever you can to keep it that way because once you start racking up debts, you have to start worrying about paying it back interest and all, and that means you have less control over your life day to day.
Start saving
When you are earning money, make sure that you put a decent percentage aside for a rainy day. That way you will have a financial cushion that you can fall back on when times get tough and you won’t spend your days worrying about the lack of money in your life.
Speak to a counselor
If you have developed a toxic relationship with money and you can’t quite seem to shake it, it may be worth speaking with a counselor who can help you unravel your feelings towards the almighty dollar, make your peace with money and start living a life that is not controlled with cash.
Money is useful, but if you let it control you, it will make you miserable so don’t fall into the trap!
