You have an idea for a project or a goal. In fact, you believe it to be one of the best ideas you’ve ever had. It gets you excited even to think about accomplishing it. You want to achieve this so bad, you can almost feel what it would be like to succeed. Now what do you do next?
This is the step that used to get me stuck. Is this where you get stuck?
I used to get frozen in the planning stage because I wanted everything to be perfect before I started. I began to realize that this need to get it perfect is what stopped me from realizing my goals. You cannot get to your destination without taking the first step.
“It is better to achieve an imperfect task than to have a perfect idea and not start.”
Not ready?
Start anyways and modify along the way. Successful people start even before they feel ready.
When athletes start in their careers, they don’t wait to be at their peak before joining a team. They join a team, put in incredible amounts of hours during practice, perform at their best during games and keep learning along the way.
[tweetthis]Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence Vince Lombardi [/tweetthis]
I love the above quote from Vince Lombardi. How do you chase perfection? How do you chase anything? By running after it and starting on your journey.
Next time you want to start something, don’t wait to have all the pieces of the puzzle before starting. Start with your first step, learn what you need in order to take the next step and then keep going. If you feel overwhelmed before even starting, it might be because you are thinking about all the required steps needed to get to the finish line.
One day at a time, one step at a time.
