We’ve all probably driven past industrial chimneys with white and black smoke swelling into the sky. It might be more noticeable some days than others, but we should all be concerned about what is in the air we breathe. In fact, outdoor air pollution is attributed to 3.4 million deaths per year. With that said, how can we reduce or eliminate the impact of industrial pollution?
One of the biggest solutions to this problem is to switch to a clean energy source such as solar or wind power. If that is not an option you can also choose to use biomass or geothermal systems as they are still a better choice than coal and natural gas. Another common way to reduce industrial pollution is by destroying pollutants at their source using tools such as catalytic oxidizers. A catalytic oxidizer better controls the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous organic compounds (HAPs). Planning for lower production times when possible and switching to nontoxic sourced materials are also other important steps to reducing industrial pollution.
