If you’re just starting out as the head of a moving company, you’ll certainly want to ensure that the service you’re delivering to your clients is top class – getting all their belongings from one home to a new home quickly, safely, and efficiently.

However, a move is by no means a small task, even for seasoned movers. So, how can the leaders of moving companies ensure that they’re giving they’re all to deliver a great experience to each and every one of their clients?

Here a few tips for leading your moving team so that every job is a successful one!

Plan Ahead

You’ll want to make sure that you have chance to plan your move ahead before you even begin loading up any of your client’s furniture and belongings.

You might be able to organise a visit to your client’s current home before the moving day, though this may not always be possible – your client is likely very busy planning their own moving day strategies. If this can’t be done, set aside a little time on moving day to take a walk around the house and decide your strategy before you relay the information to the rest of your team. Which room will you handle first? Are there any pieces of furniture that may be difficult to move? Are all stairways, doorways, etc. free of any obstructions that could get in the way?

Planning ahead will allow you to organize your team far more efficiently and ensure you don’t seem to be floundering in front of your client when the moving process begins.

Cover Your Back

Make sure that there are no risks for you and your team as far as damaging property is concerned. For example, tell your team to ensure that there is no belongings left in drawers, cabinets, etc. that could be damaged once the furniture is moved, and that there are no mirrors, photographs or canvases hanging on the walls of staircases and hallways that could be knocked down by your team whilst moving.

The last thing you want is to cause any damage to your client’s belongings – even if your team is fully insured, this could still damage your reputation if the client is unhappy.

Assign Jobs To Each Team Member

Make sure that each member of your moving team is well aware of what their role will be throughout the moving process. One excellent way to do this is to assign different rooms to different members of your team.

For example, in a team of four, you may want to split into two and assign jobs to your team members according to their level of skill or experience – it’s much better to assign less experienced team members to move furniture with low risk of damage, for instance, while your more skilled team members are left in charge of moving valuables or more cumbersome items, such as TVs and large mirrors.

Planning ahead and ensuring that your team have a strategy going into the move will allow you to deliver a much more efficient, organized and overall higher quality of service.
