CBD and Depression

How many beneficial properties does CBD have?! So many, and it is no coincidence it has been used for thousands of years as a valuable natural ally to relieve pain and inflammation and relax the mind. Recently, however, an essential interaction between CBD and its effects on mood has been recognized: Cannabidiol can regulate mood and provide relief even in the darkest moments.

CBD as a natural solution

We are talking about a natural substance found in cannabis plants and free of psychoactive effects. Once taken, it does not cause psycho-motor alterations, which is why CBD has seen a fundamental revaluation in recent years.

For example, in some European countries, the turning point came with laws that made the cultivation of CBD / Hemp and the production and sale of its derivatives legal, thus allowing the enormous benefits of CBD to be exploited.

Cannabis light is a particular variety rich in CBD and practically no THC, another substance usually found in hemp plants but with narcotic effects. By using purified hemp that has no THC, one can only appreciate CBD’s properties and use it legally for various purposes, including as a mood regulator.

CBD, once taken, interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the body and influences the production of serotonin, the so-called happiness hormone, i.e., a mood enhancer.

CBD and depression: What the science says

There is currently little scientific research on cannabis for depression. However, science has learned extensively about the individual effects of THC and CBD.

A new study published by the University of Mexico and Releaf App in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine has confirmed the efficacy of cannabis for the treatment of depression.

The study was conducted in the United States, asking 1,819 individuals to provide anonymous answers. A total of 5,876 were collected. The selected subjects were following a depression treatment involving cannabis and tracking via the Releaf App, which allows patients to be tracked and the degree and type of relief analyzed. On average, individuals noted a symptom improvement of approximately four points on a scale of 0 to 10 immediately following the consumption of cannabis.

The study also indicated that inflorescences possessing elevated THC levels resulted in an immediate decrease in adverse emotions for patients, leading to a reduction in the intensity of depression.

However, it was revealed that the extent of these beneficial outcomes is contingent upon the inherent traits of specific strains within the cannabis plant. A subset of individuals (1 in 5) encountered specific adverse effects, like reduced motivation, after consuming inflorescences with elevated THC levels. Nevertheless, every participant in the study attested to experiencing positive emotions such as happiness, optimism, tranquillity, and relaxation.
