AI Coding Tools Boost Software Development

I am most excited about AI that can actually build software, not just talk about it.

Right now, we spend way too much time writing the same boring code over and over. API endpoints that look identical to fifty others we have written. Test cases for obvious scenarios. Documentation that’s outdated before I finish typing it. The interesting problems, the stuff that actually requires thinking? That’s maybe a quarter of my day if I’m lucky.

But I have been playing with AI tools that can handle a lot of this grunt work. Tell one to build a user registration system, and it spits out decent code. Another can write tests that actually catch real bugs. Some can even spot problems in code reviews that I miss when I’m rushing to ship.

For example, Microsoft has introduced a Power BI co-pilot chatbot where you can generate a dashboard with a chatbot prompt. You can also edit the dashboard using prompts or download it and edit it yourself.

This technology has the potential to make non-technical teams less reliant on data analysts. Instead, they will get a self-service tool that can immediately answer any quick questions they have about the data.

The developers will then only need to review, edit, and optimize the code. This will also reduce MVP development timelines, especially for startups, as they will be able to deliver faster within a few weeks, rather than months.

It’s already being implemented in our team, so from my point of view, the AI copilot is the next big thing for development industries.
