Attaining a license for real estate in Florida will require you with hours of course completion and pass the state’s exam. Once completed, you may begin to buy and sell properties. 

But then, learning does not end there because, for real estate agents to keep their licenses, they still need to go through other exams and education requirements, including completing the post-licensing courses.

Understanding Florida’s Post-license Education

Sales Associates

For sales associates, they must complete about 45-hours of approved post-license education, and that must be within the renewal period. Sales Associate must also pass the exam required by the state.

All applicants for the licensure who passed the licensure examination for sales associates should also complete the Commission-prescribed courses before the renewal and following the initial licensure.

Unfortunately, the license of sales associates who could not complete the post-licensure education requirement shall be considered null and void. Such individuals who wish to work as real estate sales associates should be required to complete the pre-licensure course of a sales associate and pass the state licensure examination as a sales associate.

What are the Limitations?

According to the Florida Division of Real Estate, 75% is the required minimum grade for the examinee to pass the post-licensing education final exam. You are only allowed up to two final exam attempts; if you fail twice, you are again required to re-enroll in the course. You must go through the entire course again to take the final exam.

Roster Process

Rosters are required and must be submitted electronically every business day to complete the previous days.

Brokers

For brokers, they must meet the post-licensure course requirement, complete 60 hours of courses, and pass the exam. It shall not exceed 60 hours, of which 50 minutes each, all-encompassing the examination. They need to complete the commission-prescribed post-licensing course before the first renewal, which follows the initial licensure.

What are the Limitations?

A minimum grade of 75% is required for you to pass the post-licensing education final exam. Like the sales associate exam, only two attempts are allowed for Brokers. However, if you fail the exam twice, you are required to re-enroll in the course. You need to go back through the course to take the exam.

Roster Process 

Roster is also required and is electronically submitted every working day. That’s actually for the completion of the previous day.

When Should You take the Post-licensing Course in Florida? 

Post-licensing courses for brokers and sales associates should be completed within the first renewal period. That period would range from 18 – 24 months, right after getting the license.

You must complete the courses within 2 years of receiving your license. Afterward, you have to complete the additional fourteen hours of education, and that’s every 2 years.

What are the Lessons or Coverage on Florida’s Post-licensing Course? 

The courses in the real estate post-licensing are intended to build your foundations on what you have learned in the pre-licensing education. It helps you work more efficiently and better protect the public.

What will Happen When the Post-licensing Course is Incomplete? 

If you don’t complete the post-licensing course in real estate and pass your exam before renewing your license, chances are, your license will be null and void. But, if you can’t do it because of adversity, the commission would still allow you to give up to 6 months for the completion.

If the sales associate’s license becomes void, you have to start it over and must retake the pre-licensure course. You also need to of course, pass the state exam.

On the other hand, if a broker’s license becomes void, you may again work as a sales associate. You must complete the continuing education for about 14 hours within 6 months of the license’s expiration date.
