How to Increase Followers on LinkedIn: 13 Easy Tips

These days, your LinkedIn page is like a digital version of your business card. Unlike a business card, LinkedIn can show the world how many (or few) followers you have. And with over 750 million members, LinkedIn is an incredibly popular website.

I don’t want to tie your worth to LinkedIn followers. But I can also get the joy that comes with seeing more people following your LinkedIn profile. If you want more followers on your personal or company page, I have what you need. Let’s not waste any time and get right into these great tips.

1. Let the World Know About You (or Your Business)

One of the best ways to get followers is by being interesting. And I’m sure there’s a ton of interesting information that’s not on your LinkedIn page. So, let’s fix that. If you’re creating a personal LinkedIn page, let people know about your past work experience. You can also highlight important projects you worked on.

But what about if you’re working on a LinkedIn company page? Every good company page needs a description. Fortunately, you get 2,000 characters to let the world know about your LinkedIn company page.

This platform also gives its members credits they can use on follow invitations. If you have a decent number of LinkedIn followers, using your credits to send out quick invites is a smart move.

2. Have a Logo or Nice Headshot

Another important thing to focus on is that little circle in the left corner of your LinkedIn page. That’s where most LinkedIn users see you or your business for the first time. So, let’s make a great impression. Get rid of the boring, old gray square.

While I can tell you how to grow your LinkedIn page, I’m no photography or design expert. Sorry. Anyways, once you create a nice logo or take a great picture of yourself, throw it up as your main pic.

3. Encourage Sharing From Your Current Network

If your company needs more LinkedIn followers, reach out to your current employees. Your business could have quite a massive and untapped sharing network. Even if you are a small business, a few shares can help you gain a lot of traction on LinkedIn.

What if you don’t like asking people this question? If so, see if anyone you know has a LinkedIn account and follow them. Most likely, they’ll follow you back in return.

4. Follow Other Business Professionals and Companies

If you need more followers, following other accounts can help improve your LinkedIn presence. LinkedIn Premium members can follow any account on this platform. But, free LinkedIn users can only follow accounts within their networks.

Start using this method by typing in subjects of interest into LinkedIn’s search bar. Let’s say that you own a home renovation business. If so, you’d want to look for companies and professionals in the home improvement niche to follow.

5. Join LinkedIn Groups

Like many other social media platforms, LinkedIn also lets members create and join groups. LinkedIn Groups are amazing ways for people to chat about a wide range of topics. If you want to grow your LinkedIn account, it’s definitely worth being a part of some of these groups.

Finding groups on LinkedIn is simple. Just check out the search bar in the top-middle section of your LinkedIn home page. Next, search for a subject of interest and select the Groups option on the left side of this window. In a few seconds, the LinkedIn algorithm should generate a ton of relevant results.

Keep in mind that most groups must manually accept invitations. So, you could be waiting for a little bit before gaining acceptance into these groups. Once you’re a member, start adding relevant comments to discussions. You can also share valuable content, just make sure it’s useful to your group.

6. Start Your Own LinkedIn Group

What if you can’t find any groups within the LinkedIn community that have what you need? That’s okay, you can make your own group on LinkedIn. To do this, you only need a group name, a good description, and a profile image.

Who knows? Your new group could soon start gaining lots of popularity and new members.

7. Create a Great First Line

You know the old saying about the importance of making a good first impression. However, you might not know that most LinkedIn users will only see a small portion of your post. If they want to read the entire post, they need to click or tap the ‘see more’ option.

With that in mind, many in the online marketing world make their posts stand out in the first few lines. If you’re not used to writing for a living, this might seem tough. But, you’ll get better with this marketing technique the more you do it.

Here’s what I do while I’m writing up LinkedIn posts. First, I write the post as I want it to look. Then, I go back and take the most important sentence and throw it at the top of my post. Try it out!

8. Ask Your Audience Questions

Another great way to boost engagement (and followers) is by sparking a discussion. Since LinkedIn is a social media platform, many of this website’s most popular posts encourage people to leave comments.

A company I used to work for would utilize this strategy all the time… and it worked! As is the case with many of these strategies, you don’t have to overthink things too much. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • What’s the best thing about your company?
  • What are the biggest challenges your company has faced in the past year?
  • How do you reward your employees?

9. Launch a Few LinkedIn Ads

If you want results fast on LinkedIn, it’s sometimes a good idea to launch a few ads. With the right ads, connection requests might soon start pouring into your account. Because we’re talking about ads, it’s important to note that this is a paid LinkedIn growth method.

Fortunately, you don’t need a million-dollar budget or anything crazy to start advertising on LinkedIn. If you’re familiar with creating ads on other social media channels, LinkedIn’s interface should look familiar. For those unfamiliar with paid ads, it’s good to start with your objective.

What is the main goal behind your ads? In this case, it’s driving traffic and followers to your LinkedIn profile. From there, you would choose your target audience. These are the people or companies you most want to see your advertising campaign in action.

Play around with different ads and track your results. In time, you’ll learn what drives the most LinkedIn followers to your personal or company page.

10. Include Relevant Hashtags in Your Posts

Almost no piece of quality content on social media is complete without hashtags. This symbol is a way for social media websites to categorize their content. For example, you would use the #funny hashtag if you wanted to find funny videos. With relevant hashtags in your LinkedIn content, you can drive waves of new traffic to your page.

Unfortunately, there’s no magic number of specific hashtags to include on LinkedIn. Try to strike a balance between not enough and going overboard. Usually, three to six hashtags should be enough.

11. Write Articles for LinkedIn’s Audience

As you begin creating a LinkedIn page, it’s easy to get lost in the many features this platform offers. Considering that, you might be unaware that you can publish articles on LinkedIn.

After your new article is ready, give it a great description with your main keyword in it. Also, include a few relevant tags, and your new article could attract a lot of relevant traffic. And don’t forget to share this new article on your personal LinkedIn profile and company page.

12. Include LinkedIn Buttons on Your Website

You don’t only have to rely on LinkedIn traffic to gain new followers. It’s also possible to cross-promote your LinkedIn page on your personal and business websites. Most website design platforms have plug-ins that enable users to link out to their social media pages.

Include a link to your LinkedIn company or personal page, and you’re all set!

13. Mix Things Up

If you check out the most popular LinkedIn pages, you’ll see that they post all sorts of relevant content. You should, too. Mix things up with video content in one post and a more text-heavy post in another. You can also encourage engagement with LinkedIn posts that ask your audience questions.

In closing, there are many great strategies for attracting followers on LinkedIn. Remember that growing a LinkedIn audience takes time. That’s why I recommend repeating the previously mentioned strategies each day or week. In time, you could soon have a very popular LinkedIn profile and lots of new followers.
