How to Make an Office Feel Like Home

When you’re at your desk, it can be hard to focus on work when you’ve got the homebody blues. However, there are a few simple things you can do to help make your office feel more like home and ease the separation anxiety from leaving your couch.

You have to admit, working in an office can get kind of boring. Yes, you work with other people, and you can have a bit of fun, but there are times when you want to go home and relax. Today we talk about how to make your office more comfortable. Our goal is to inspire you and show you that you can feel at home at work.

Details follow below!

Use Artwork

Decorate! Bring in some of your favorite artwork or family photos to display on your desk or shelf. You can even make a collage of your favorite memories and post them right above your computer screen so that they stay top of mind throughout the day.

Artwork is one of the most effective ways you can make an office space feel like home. By incorporating artwork into your office space, you have the opportunity to show off your personality and create a space that is uniquely yours.

Bring photos of family and friends

Even if you’re surrounded by coworkers who you talk to every day, it’s nice to have photos of people you love around you while you work. There’s something extremely comforting about having photos of family members and close friends nearby — even if they’re miles away — so add some framed photos or postcards of them to your desk or wall so you can look at them whenever you want to take a break from work.

Bring something that reminds you of home

If something reminds you of home and makes it cozy, then why not bring that thing with you? It can be anything from a plant to a blanket or just some decoration. When things get too intense at work, just look at this thing, and think about how nice would it be if we could all leave and go home right now.

Snack up!

Keep a bowl of snacks on hand at all times (unless you have a habit of eating everything in sight). We find that having candy, nuts, dried fruit, or granola bars helps when those 3 pm cravings hit. It’s also fun to get everyone in the office involved by making it a communal snack box and letting everyone pitches in their favorites.

Bring in your favourite coffee mug

This might seem like a trivial suggestion, but oftentimes our favorite coffee mugs are sitting at home during the week. Bringing them into the office will make your day-to-day coffee breaks that much more enjoyable and create a sense of familiarity that’s hard to find in an office setting.

Have a coffee bar

We’ve all experienced that extreme need for caffeine, and even if your office has a coffee maker, it’s nothing like the feeling of having your favorite coffee at your fingertips while you work. Plus, it will make your employees happy to not have to leave the office to get their coffee fixed.

Add plants

Plants add life to any space – literally! By adding plants throughout your office, you can soften your workspace’s hard edges and bring in a bit of nature. We recommend adding plants in two ways: living walls and small potted plants or succulents for desks.

Bringing in plants can help make any space feel warm and cozy. As a bonus, plants also help keep the air clean by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into their surroundings. There are plenty of plants that grow well indoors — spider plants and aloe vera plants are two great options — and they’re easy to maintain while adding life to your desk space.

If you want, you can get in touch with firms that offer Commercial Plant Hire as a service, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of having plants in your office without the hassle of sourcing and caring for them yourself. These firms typically provide a wide selection of plants suitable for indoor environments and offer maintenance services to ensure your plants remain healthy and vibrant.

Make the office smell good

It’s no secret that scents make us feel at home. The intoxicating aroma of cinnamon and cloves brewing on the stove or the scent of fresh flowers placed around the house are instantly recognizable and comforting to many people. Just as with home, the smells in your office can be a trigger for comfort and relaxation, so why not use them to your advantage? Whether it’s lighting a candle or brewing some tea, you can make the space more inviting through scent alone. If you have a kitchen area at work, bring in your favorite ingredients, and whip up something delicious.

Add some colour

The first thing that you need to do is to add a little color to your office. That is because you can decorate and customize as much as possible. It will give the office color and life. You can also use a color scheme for the room itself. Try using different colors for different walls or using different accent colors throughout the room to brighten it up and make it look a bit more appealing to you.

Bring your furniture

As we spend most of our time in the office, why not bring in some of our furniture to make it feel like home? It is more for people who work from home. For example, if you have a couch that you love and you find it comfy, why not bring it in? Of course, only do this if your boss agrees with it. After all, they will be the ones paying the electricity bill.

You can take your office to the next level and make it comfortable. It is crucial how you feel in the bathroom. You can bring your favorite little things from home, such as towels, soaps, toothbrushes. Installing bidets can help you feel more comfortable and enjoyable in your daily life.

Make sure it’s clean

The office needs to be clean and tidy. Not only because it will make you feel more at ease being there but also because a clean working area is a safe working area that will further contribute to making you feel comfortable. The last thing anybody needs is to worry about safety while they are working. So use the right cleaning supplies and get to work.

Let there be light!

Good lighting is not only vital for maintaining good health, but it can also make the place look cozier and feel more like home. If your office has big windows, then you are in luck. But if it doesn’t have any windows at all, try using lamps that have warm light bulbs in them (warm white). It will make the whole place look cozier and more welcoming.

Have a comfortable chair

If there is one thing that you need to invest in for your office, it is a good chair. Your office chair should be comfortable enough that you do not have to fidget around when you are working. If you have an uncomfortable chair, it will cause unnecessary pain in the back and neck, making it difficult for you to concentrate on your work. So, invest in a good-quality chair that is comfortable and supportive of your back and neck.

Good music

Whether you are working from home or in an office with a cubicle, it is vital to be able to feel at ease and comfortable in your environment. You spend so much time at work, so having a place that makes you feel relaxed and productive is essential.

Play music, and it will surely make you more productive and feel more relaxed. Make your favorite playlist and play it on your laptop or headphones. It is very important to create a fun atmosphere in the work environment that motivates you to give your maximum.

We believe that these tips will help you feel at home in your office!

De-clutter

A cluttered workspace can make your office feel uncomfortable, so try to keep all of your things organized as much as possible. Get some storage boxes and decorative baskets or hampers and store everything that doesn’t need to be on your desk inside of them. This way, you will keep everything organized at all times.
