Safety needs to be a top priority for property owners. This is true for commercial property owners too. The people residing in and frequenting the area want to feel secure and protected. And there’s always room for changes and enhancements. Improving the safety of your commercial property will keep your business thriving.
Keep Areas Bright
A dark area is an invitation for dangerous activity. No one walks down a dark alley and feels safe. Every area of your commercial property needs properly illumination, whether outside or inside. Don’t let the lightbulbs flicker or go out. Replace them.
Consider adding some flood lights along the perimeter of the property. Make sure they activate with motion sensors to preserve energy. They’ll turn on once they detect movement. During the daytime, you don’t need to activate them, but have them set on a timer for when the sunsets.
Secure Doors and Windows
All the windows and doors of the property need to be secure and reinforced. Use security glass because regular glass is easy to penetrate and can shatter quickly. It’s a material that criminals won’t be able to get through. It also better protects the property from natural elements. Heavy winds and rains could potentially crack normal glass, but reinforced windows and doors provide extra protection. Make sure you follow health and safety codes before having them installed.
Maintain the Lot
The lot is, unfortunately, a neglected area of commercial properties. It may not be the building itself but it still requires regular maintenance and security. Including lighting on the lot makes sense for evening drivers.
But you also need to remove potholes, divots, and cracks because those can damage cars. Furthermore, freshen up the striping. Parking lot striping can improve the safety and curb appeal of the entire property. No one wants to deal with an overcrowded and congested parking lot.
Check the Fire Detectors
Always make sure the smoke and fire detectors on your property are working properly. Perform this task monthly so that there are never any surprises or emergencies your building can’t handle. Check them all at the same time as well. This way, you don’t need to worry about which batteries you need to switch out.
Doing it all at once is a much easier process. Furthermore, check the carbon monoxide detectors at the same time. Make sure there’s a clear pathway to every entrance area. Never have anything blocking the doors ways. Navigation needs to be easy to avoid fire code violations.
Once you improve the safety of your commercial property, you can focus on other important areas of your business.
