3 Notable Filipino Beauty Businesses

A decade ago, who would have thought that the Philippines would enjoy a beauty business boom? The sprouting of emerging brands was the foreshadowing for it to happen, especially in 2019. In 2019, Issy, back then known as Issy & Co, entered the Philippine market with its brow products, having the Gonzaga sisters as their brand endorsers and their then-hero product: the Issy & Co Skin Tint. There was also Luxxe Organix skincare, with its line of various serums and other stuff for the skin.

With the beauty industry here being so populous, what are the most notable beauty product brands in the Filipino makeup industry? Well, we can count them with the fingers on our hands! We have Colourette, one of the oldest makeup brands. Then we also have Get Ready With Me Cosmetics, which has been busy executing launch after launch of products. And then, fresh from their rebrand, is Issy.

Read on! In this article, we’ll discuss three (3) of the most notable Filipino beauty businesses and why they deserve a spot.

Colourette Cosmetics

At heart, Colourette Cosmetics is a brand after Filipinos with its specialization on multi-use products. It was launched in 2015 with lipsticks, followed by a short-lived foray in eyeshadows. Miss Nina Dizon is Colourette’s founder; she came from Pampanga armed with a dream and her capital. And boy, did she capitalize on it.

Colourette released its lip tints, then followed it up with their unique Velvet Tints. What made their tint releases boom was their power to become multi-use products, and another was due to their shade range.

Their shade range has left some feeling divisive and confused, especially due to the tendency of the tints to lean warm. Still, some morena girls have felt happiness in them as the tints can complement a variety of Filipina skin tones.

Colourette prides itself on its goal of “strive(ing) to redefine beauty and break stereotypes not only with our products but with our advocacies of women empowerment and diversity.”

With Philippine corporation Colourette’s fun release choices its creative, colorful branding, and diverse models on its campaigns, we can see it certainly happening!

Get Ready With Me Cosmetics

Before Miss Mae Layug was Get Ready With Me Cosmetics’ CEO, she was first Mae Layug, the content creator. Before she was Mae Layug, the content creator, she was a daughter and a small business owner. She sold various products to make ends meet for her and her father. Thankfully, her boyfriend, now-husband Billy, was supportive. It was during the phase of her selling cosmetics that she found interest in it – and then the rest was history.

During the height of the pandemic, she launched GRWM Cosmetics. She took the lead in creating thirty (30) shades catered for Filipino skin tones with the brand’s first foundation and its wide range of concealer and corrector shades alongside numerous powders (loose and pressed), and primers for different kinds of skin types. Other brands soon noted her foray into developing more inclusive shades.

Regarding base products, Get Ready With Me Cosmetics is here to stay.

Issy Cosmetics

Fuss-free? Inclusive? Those are words that Issy co-founder Jasmine Ang Chua would say about the brand. Her strong partnership with creative director and friend Joel Andrade steered the ship for their brand campaigns

Issy’s true dark house lies in their line of base products. Their skin tint is a cult fave among Filipino women due to its wide undertone range, along with their creamy concealer. They have since launched eye primers and customizable powder palettes.

Wrapping Up

Three unique Filipino beauty brands with a mission to cater to Filipinos – all of them have something amazing and valuable to offer. Issy offers no fuss and easy makeup, while Colourette offers an inclusive and fun range of products for a wide range of Filipino skin shades. Lastly, Get Ready With Me Cosmetics is here to give everyone Filipino weather-proof makeup.

We look forward to what they’re all doing next!
